Lucky to be

I know I've been MIA a bit, and you all have been really missing my white girl woe, but alas, nothing much going on but love, love, love. Really, the past couple of days have been heaven. The reasons? As listed...

1) Strawberries are in season and are a mere $1.99 a pop.
Really, we've been eating a tub a day if not more here at the house. Shoot, everything is better with a strawberry.

2) I've watched the Wild Things trailer only like 17 times.
Seriously, I simply can't wait. I've got my fingers crossed that it won't be too traumatizing for the Bub. Please please please be soft core PG!

3) Construction on my new back porch is imminent.
After a ton of back and forth about whether or not to just add a room to our meager little cottage, we returned to my original idea of a back porch because I really wasn't looking for another room to clean, just a place to be outside, mosquito-free, during the summer. The permit is approved so the moment is upon us.

4) New York is a mere two weeks away.
Oh, so many things to do. I've started keeping a list so we don't forget a thing. Plus, we added a long weekend in Maine to the vacation mix as well as my birthday down at the coast. God, I love being on the move.

5) Tonight's dinner was a hot steaming bowl of pho.
We went to our favorite Vietnamese place and the Bub was a doll and ate summer rolls and rice and bean sprouts. Always nice when you can have a meal out where the young one doesn't act like a total ass.

6) I'm also permitted for my first yard sale ever in a few weeks.
There's this trip to NY, see. And there is such a thing as pocket money, and I do have an attic of baby junk that needs scooting.

7) The Hub's garden at the farm is planted and growing.
15 TOMATO PLANTS PEOPLE. Life doesn't get better than that.

8) This list is totally suburban housewife and it's gonna get worse before it gets better.

9) I got my hair highlighted for the first time in my life today.
Seriously, when the lady found out she had "virgin hair" to work on, the entire Aveda Institute went silent and all the students looked at me like I was a five-headed monster. Despite that, I think the finished product looks fabulous.

10) My son is a real live boy.
He can talk to me. We have full blown conversations about complicated (and not so complicated) subjects that blow my mind. He is starting to turn into the boy I always imagined. A twinkle of the man he will be. We walked in the rain today and got soaked and splashed and cowered at the thunder and laughed and laughed. He carried with him a small cardboard box in which he placed two tiny finch feathers, sheltering it under his arm so it wouldn't get drenched. His little heart and soul bring me to tears daily. And when I do cry, he reaches up and holds my face and smiles. Like in some cosmic way he understands. Somehow he can reach past the years and empathize. Really, his childhood is just magic to me. I am so lucky to be alive.

I thought the same thing about the "Where the Wild Things Are" movie. Okay, the kiddo will be almost four by then. Will he be able to handle it? This from a mom who played one of her favorite movies for him, "The Nightmare Before Christmas." I feel like I have to start seeing everything through his eyes. Forgotten about how scary those scenes with that oogie boogie dude can be!

amen, scribs. onward and upward. time to spring clean the drearys out of our attics:)

incidentally, in our new/ old house, we are taking the porch that was turned into a room and making it back into the porch. porch sitting is preferable to closed in space! i spent all week cleaning the place out so we can get this show on the road. and, i just want you to know that you really helped me with my perspective on the whole thing. i am once again giddy with the possibilities. xoxo
